We took the new Aprilia SR GT to Marilaque for a test ride

Aprilia, in the past few years, has been very busy developing motorcycles that represent the brand’s motto of “Be a Racer.”

For example, their flagship model, the RSV4 Factory, is probably the most powerful production bike that came out from Noale, producing a whopping 220 PS at 13,000 rpm. In the middleweight segment, Aprilia officially declared war with Yamaha and BMW when they unwrapped the Tuareg 660, Tuono and RS 660.

So we thought that Aprilia would stop there, but no. Instead, the Noale, Italy-based manufacturer also declared war on Honda and Yamaha in the small scooter segment with their new SR GT 200.

Aprilia SR GT 200: First Ride

Introduced first on the global stage of EICMA 2021, the Aprilia SR GT 200 is a compact GT scooter designed to re-inject the fun not just into everyday riding in the city, but also over long distances and less-traveled paths, thanks to equipment inspired by the enduro world that makes it the ideal companion in every situation.

For us here at MotoPinas.com, our first taste of the SR GT 200 came this weekend when out friends from Bikerbox, Inc. – the official Philippine distributor of Aprilia motorcycles – invited us for a quick Saturday spin at Marilaque.

The twisties that Marilaque offered proved to be perfect as the SR GT 200 demo that we rode pulled up with ease at every corner, largely thanks to its 174cc liquid-cooled, Euro5 compliant engine that produces about 17 PS of power at 8,500 rpm. On the handling side, the SR GT 200’s front telescopic and dual spring shock absorbers on the rear also handled Marilaque’s twisties pretty well – not diving or anything that would make cornering the bike troublesome.

Additionally, the front (with ABS) and rear disc brakes proved that the SR GT will stop when you want it and where you want it.

Some of the features include a USB charging socket on the scooter’s left glove compartment, a large-capacity underseat box, a digital panel, and a huge 9-liter fuel tank that according to the SR GT’s computed fuel range, can take you up to 350 kilometers. Based on that fuel range, the SR GT’s fuel economy puts it at 39 kilometers per liter – not bad for a 175cc scooter.

It is also equipped with an engine idling start/stop system, which further extends the range by saving fuel.

Inspired by Aprilia’s flagship model, the RSV4, the SR GT 200 doesn’t come short in terms of styling and looks.

If you’re in the market for a premium branded scooter but don’t like the classic looks of a Vespa, then Aprilia’s SR GT 200 is the right scooter for you. By the way, with the scooter’s dual-sport tires and higher-than-normal-scooter ground clearance, treading the off-beaten tracks is also welcome for the SR GT 200.
